Baby bottle tooth decay is a severe form of decay that often occurs in the teeth of infants and toddlers. This is a term associated with early childhood cavities and is often caused by poor dental habits such as repeated exposure to sugary drinks. Liquids like milk, formula, fruit juice or sweetened water can linger on your child’s teeth and increase their chances of developing harmful cavities. If your child is having difficulties with tooth decay, you can consult some of our helpful tips below:

  • Never give your child baby bottles filled with sugary drinks.
  • If you must give them a bottle in bed, only fill it with water.
  • After each feeding, wipe the baby’s gums and teeth with a clean washcloth.
  • Provide your child with a healthy, nutritious diet.
  • Rinse all of their pacifiers and toys with water to keep bacteria from entering their mouth.

Sippy cups should only be used as a training tool for your child as they transition from bottle to cup by their first birthday. If they use the sippy cup throughout the day, only fill the cup with water.
